the return of family time

This weekend we were finally able to experience what it is like for Phil to be done with grad school! Even though he's still working about 60 hours a week, the weekends are all ours! We had an awesome Saturday. I had an early brunch with my "Working Moms" group followed by our quarterly "Family Oil Change Date." We have made a tradition out of oil changes where we drop our car off at the VW dealership in Ballard, then walk to a cafe for lunch, then hit a couple great kid's consignment shops in that neighborhood. Afterward we met up with Phil's family who is in town for a wedding later this week. We went with his dad, sister, and dad's wife to the Flying Heritage Museum near our house, which we have been wanting to check out. It was a great rainy day activity. Later they took us out to dinner to commemorate Phil's graduation since they weren't able to be here for the ceremony last weekend. A whole day where I didn't have to cook or do dishes! What a treat!

Being so spoiled on Saturday motivated me to wake up early(ish) on Sunday and "make" cinnamon rolls. Ok, my friend Whitney actually made them for our freezer meal swap this month so all I actually did was put them in the oven...but I did make eggs to go with them. Liam presented Phil with his Father's Day gifts, one of which he "made" himself. (Actually, Whitney gets credit for coming up with that one too...so basically all of my Father's Day plans were her ideas and I really have to thank her for her efforts because on top of that she's about 42 weeks pregnant - praying for you friend!)  Phil's sister Sarah is staying at our house so after a yummy breakfast we headed to church and then home to play/nap/clean house. We finished the day off by checking out the new Menchie’s frozen yogurt place in Lynnwood (yum! by the way) and then heading to the park to enjoy our tasty treats while watching Liam run back and forth across the rope bridge. We couldn’t ask for a better weekend!

Happy Father's Day!
