a break in the clouds

I feel like we have been living in a fog of work lately, just trying to keep up.  The combination of that and the very un-springlike weather have been making the days very long.  Fortunately we had a few days of sun last week and my mom came to visit which was a huge help.  We also had a streak of fun activities that gave me a much-needed break from work.

Last Thursday night Aunt Ingrid hosted a midnight tea party in honor of the Royal Wedding.  She provided a lovely spread of British food and a bunch of us stayed up all night watching the parade of hats and Anglomania on multiple channels.  I even got to break out my fancy hat that I bought at an antique store years ago and had yet to find an occasion to wear it.

Liam found my fancy hat the next day and had to try it on
On Friday my mom stayed home with Liam so Phil and I could have a date night.  We checked out Azul, a Mexican bistro in Mill Creek that I have wanted to try.  It was worth the anticipation.  Grilled salmon with mango salsa, roasted sweet potatoes and sangria, yum!  We thought of going to a movie but instead we did some shopping, which seems luxurious when you don’t have a kid with you.  We finally bought the new camera we have been researching and saving for.  So excited!  Then we spent a leisurely hour strolling around Target.

New camera!  Look at the difference!
After attending a going-away party on Saturday and a toddler birthday party on Sunday, we just had to take advantage of the last few hours of sunlight so we headed down to the Edmonds waterfront and let Liam play in the sand and look at boats.  Since we were there, we decided to grab dinner at the Beach Café.  Eating out twice in one week!  What a treat!  The best part was when Liam held the piece of halibut he was eating up to the paper mache fish decorations hanging from the ceiling and said “fishy” “mmm!”

Enjoying every last bit of daylight
