Last weekend we completed the great feat of
clearing out our office/storage/guest room and converting it into a new room
for Liam so that we can put the baby in his old nursery. We still have some
decorating to do. The bedspread and curtains are still yards of raw fabric in
my sewing project bin and the walls are bare. But it’s painted and there is
furniture and all of his stuff is moved in so at least it’s functional. I am
very relieved to have accomplished this much before baby arrives. I am so
thankful for my very patient and hard working husband who puts up with my
endless nesting “to do” list.
Napping in the “big boy bed” went better than
expected until day two when Liam fell out for the first time. It’s a captain’s
bed so it was a pretty long fall. It was traumatic. So, we have these silicone
“gripper” potholders that we sometimes put under the legs of the kitchen stool
so that it won’t slip out from under him when he helps us cook. Liam came up
with the idea that if he put them under the legs of his bed, he wouldn’t fall
out anymore (I guess he thought the bed was moving out from under him). We’ll see how that works out.
Nighttime has been a challenge. The first three nights he
didn’t fall asleep until after midnight. His excuses for getting up began with
the usual and then proceeded into ridiculousness.
“I need to go potty”
“I need a drink”
“I need to go potty again”
“I need you to cut my fingernails”
“I need you to sing ABC with me”
“I need to mow the lawn”
“I need to check on my baby” (his doll that he put
to sleep in the baby’s crib)
“I need Daddy to kiss my toe” (which he stubbed two
days ago)
“I need to read a book to my elephant”
Last night was better so we’re hopeful that the new room novelty wears off before
the baby comes and he starts sleeping normally again. Dealing with two kids up
all night would not be fun.
